The History of the Hamilton School of Music

The Hamilton School of Music was founded in 1995 by the accomplished accordionist and local musician Glen Ellement who wished to provide quality music education for children and adults in the greater Hamilton area. Throughout the years Glen employed many highly qualified and professionally trained teachers in various instruments,  and the school’s roster grew into the hundreds.  Many students have gone on to complete post secondary musical studies and some have careers in music.

One of the school’s teachers, Brenda Kushnir, who herself had renewed her musical studies as an adult, decided to embark on a new career as an entrepreneur and bought the business in 2012 upon Glen’s retirement.   Brenda and her entire family have, at one point or another, taken lessons at the Hamilton School of Music since 2001.  Brenda and her staff truly believe in enhancing their students’ lives through the study and enjoyment of music while fostering their self esteem and motivation to succeed, as well as following the school’s motto of:  Building confidence through music.

  • Our boys have been attending the Hamilton School of Music since they were three years old taking the Tunes for Tots program. The program instilled in them a love and appreciation for music that they still share today-over 10 years later! Our sons play piano and guitar respectively and in both cases the programs are tailored to suit their particular learning styles and musical interests. Their instructors are amazingly patient and encouraging and our boys have grown in self-esteem and self-confidence. They have also been given the opportunity to play together as part of a band organized by the school. In addition, we strongly believe there is a strong correlation between their music instruction and strong grades in school. We would definitely recommend the Hamilton School of Music to any parent who wants high quality music instruction for their children.

  • My children started at the Hamilton School of Music in the Tunes for Tots and junior keyboard classes three years ago, and we have never looked back. The owners and teachers are very friendly and are always striving to meet my children’s individual needs, as well as keeping them on track with their knowledge of music. I was so impressed with the school and the calibre of teachers, that I signed myself up for vocal lessons last year and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. This is an amazing school that fosters individual growth and creativity.

  • Our whole family has been involved with the school in one form or another, whether it was piano lessons, guitar lessons, drum lessons, violin lessons, theory lessons or band, for the last twelve years.  We believe there is a strong correlation between academic success and a musical education.  To this day we still take lessons when we can, sometimes to try a new instrument, sometimes to further our education and sometimes to just improve our skills. At this time I am the proud new owner of the school, with the help of my husband Jerry, and we will continue to support and encourage all of our students while providing high calibre teachers for each and every one.
