All About Kerrie, Registered Early Childhood Educator & Kindermusik Educator

My name is Kerrie & I’m a Registered Early Childhood Educator & Kindermusik Educator! This October marks YEAR #1 of my Kindermusik Journey, YEAR #5 as an R.E.C.E and YEAR #10 of working with children in a professional setting. Time sure does fly!

Before I became a Kindermusik Educator, I’ve been a;

➡ Science Educator @ KW Mad Science
➡ Living History Educator @ the Waterloo Region Museum
➡ Animal Educator @ Little Rays Reptile Zoo
➡ Toddler Room Teacher @ Heritage Green CCC
➡ And More!

Even though working with children has outlined my entire career, when I began my Bachelors in Psychology in 2012, I was set on being a crisis interventionist. But after years of working with people in crisis, I got to a point where all I could think was – “I wish I could have helped this person when they were younger.”

This train of thought persisted for YEARS, until I had a “light bulb” moment. From birth to age 5, a child’s brain develops more, and more rapidly, than at any other time in life. What if, instead of waiting for a problem, we teach children POSITIVE & PREVENTATIVE mental health strategies to help kids help themselves?

So how does Kindermusik enter the picture? While music therapy in itself is fairly new, the idea of music being therapeutic is not. Music is a positive & preventative STRATEGY for relaxing or lifting your emotions in times of need. It doesn’t require a music therapist & can involve a range of experiences… just like Kindermusik! KM relies on music & movement to influence your child’s socio-emotional development & help them express & manage their emotions, allowing them to establish positive & rewarding relationships with others!

In KM Class, you can expect that your child will be;

✨ Seen ✨
✨ Heard ✨
✨ Respected ✨
✨ Valued ✨
✨ Accepted ✨

For whoever they decide to be that day! Because if those first 5 years lay the foundation for the rest of our days – let’s give them the best start we could have ever hoped for.
